Below is an email that I sent today to all members who so far have chosen to volunteer as blog authors for the group.

===========
I wanted to thank you for volunteering to be a “blog author” for the new Executive Club blog. I’m hoping that this effort does 2 things…brings more meaningful content to the group and also gives you a chance to share your expertise in the community in such a way that it helps you “brand” in a personal manner.

The criteria for a post is simple. I would like to have the post be your content/ideas/thoughts. Meaning, don’t just post a link to another article on the web and add some commentary. I want your post to be the one that others reference.

Also, let’s not make your post a question. It’s ok to ask what others think in regards to your post, but let’s not make it the primary purpose. For example, let’s not post something like “What do you think of the new iPad?” Rather, tell us what you think of the new iPad.

The length of the post should be no less than 300 words. I don’t have a maximum at this point as I don’t think that will be an issue. Also, I will be looking for a post from you every 90 days. This will allow me to schedule content out. That’s not to say you have to wait 90 days to re-post…if you have something that you want considered…please send it. This is going to be a little bit of an experiment as we do this so I’m open to any and all suggestions.

So we can get this ball rolling, if you can send me a post as soon as you can…that would be great and much appreciated. I’ll be giving feedback to all authors as we go.

You can write your post in any word processing application you want… such as Word, Pages, Google docs, plain text…or even just write it in an email. Once you are finished, just email it to me and I will manage the posting to the site. Of course, I will be listing you as the author along with a link to your Linkedin profile. If you have a headshot on Linkedin, I’ll also display that.

As always, if you have any questions/comments/concerns…please let me know.

I look forward to reading your posts.

I’m reaching out to all members of the group.

Part of the plan for 2011 is for more direct engagement with members via email. However, in doing so I do not want to email members who do not wish to receive information from me regarding the group, its activities, and new programs.

I’m asking that members either opt in or opt out by following the link below to a short online form:

http://execclub.org/?page_id=201

Also included in this form is a chance to participate in two new programs, the Blog Author and the “Four For” programs.

The Blog Author program (I’ll probably be changing that name) is for the new group blog. I’m asking for some commitment from group members. Its not much, but I’m asking for volunteers that will commit to writing 1 blog post (no less than 300 words) once every 90 days. It will get posted in the Linkedin Group and also on the blog giving full credit to the author. This should come from you..not a link to some other content…a chance to show your expertise in your profession.

The “Four For” program is about participating in “mini events”…the size of 4. I hate typical networking events….so I’m trying to come up with an alternative too meeting people and having good conversations. The events are like four for lunch or dinner, golf or tennis…etc. The “foursome” will be based upon matching profiles, common interests, and of course a common location. Think of it as a group date. :)

Of course, both of these are opt in programs and optional…and experimental. So I ask for your patience.

Also, if you really like to write..or have content you already wrote that you want published…email me directly about being a “Weekly Contributor” to the blog/group. I’m trying my best to schedule content/posts as best as I can.

Regards,

The group ended 2010 with 13,600 members across all industries. I’ve updated the demographics report so we can all see the make-up of the group as a whole.

Get the pdf report here: http://www.execclubmembers.org/demographics.pdf

Going forward for the new year, I’m going to be doing my best to expand in different ways this group with the hope that it will be become something more than….”just an online group.”

Keep an eye out for things to come!
